  • In North Dakota, Bismarck Public Schools and the Bismarck Police Department are seeking funding in the city’s 2019 budget for equipment that includes AR-15 rifles, gun safes, bulletproof vests, and medical kits for school resource officers. 

 
  • In New York, the 59-member School Safety Task Force in Onondaga County recommends not arming teachers, but wants to see more training, more armed school resource officers and more mental health resources in Onondaga County schools. 

 
  • In Florida, officials in Escambia County are implementing new safety and security policies that include the use of metal detectors, additional resource officers, and a new policy banning parents of elementary school students from continuing to walk their children to class.  Parents of elementary school students will only be allowed to walk their students to class the first three days of school. 

 
  • In Florida, Orange County school officials have announced that, beginning this year, they’ll be using metal detector wands for random checks on students throughout the school day.
